Brazilian Dentists Visit and Treat Refugee Children

In early November, 2018, a Brazilian delegation of dentists from the Presbyterian Church of Brazil, with the help of Rev. Leonardo Jesus, the Brazilian missionary, traveled to Lebanon to visit NESSL’s educational centers for Syrian refugee children.

The delegation of nine dentists came not only equipped with their professional skills, but also with the equipment necessary to examine, clean and treat the teeth of the refugee children, some who have never visited a dentist. The dentists visited the school in Tripoli for two full days to examine all 130 children, they cleaned the teeth of all those who needed it, and treated over 100 who required serious dental care.

They spent the next three full days in the school of Keb Elias, examining and treating 150 children in need of serious dental care. The administrator there got written permission from all parents, and all 150 children (except 4) were examined and many seriously treated.

All children in both schools were trained to clean their teeth daily, and received free toothbrushes.

Beyond all the professional care provided by the dentists, they showed personal love and hugged every child. NESSL is grateful for all the church partners who show love and care, and participate in its ministries. NESSL intends to continue such efforts until 2020.
