The 62nd General Assembly of the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon

The National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon held its 62nd General Assembly at the Dhour El Shweir Evangelical Center from Monday, September 1, to Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

The gathering opened with a worship service attended by pastors and representatives of Synod churches from Syria and Lebanon. Rev. George Mourad, President of the Synod, delivered the opening word. Special guests included:

  • Paul Haidostian, President of the Union of Armenian Evangelical Churches in the Near East
  • Imad Zaarour, Pastor of All Saints Episcopal Church, representing Archbishop Hosam Naoum, Primate of the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East
  • Nabil Costa, Secretary General of the Association of Evangelical Schools in Lebanon

Throughout the sessions, members engaged in both spiritual and administrative work. Rev. Khairallah Atallah led a devotional, and Rev. Hady Ghantous offered a Bible study reflecting on the Assembly’s theme. Reports presented and discussed included:

  • General Secretary’s Report by Rev. Joseph Kassab
  • Report of the Committee of Church and Spiritual Affairs, presented by Rev. Hady Ghantous
  • Report of the Department of Christian Education, presented by Rev. Najla Kassab, Director of the Department
  • Report of the Committee of Education, presented by Elder Johnny Awwad
  • Report of the Committee of Social and Medical Services, presented by Rev. Khairallah Atallah
  • Report of the Committee of Finance and Properties, presented by Elder Walid Katbeh
  • Report of the Committee of Media and Publications, presented by Rev. Rabih Taleb
  • Report of the Endowment Trustee in Syria, presented by Elder Marwan Diratany
  • Report of Compassion Protestant Society, presented by Executive Director Mr. Amir Bitar

During the Assembly, elections were held. Rev. Ibrahim Nseir was elected as President of the Synod, and Rev. George Mourad as Vice President. Members of the Administrative Council for the upcoming term were also elected:

From Syria:
Rev. Ibrahim Nseir, Elder Imad Khall, Rev. Elias Jabbour, Elder Hossam Awad, Rev. Maan Bitar, Elder Marwan Deraatany, Rev. Boutros Zaour, Elder Haitham Hanna, Preacher George Shamas, Elder Lujain Moussa, Rev. Salam Hanna, Rev. Yaacoub Sabbagh, Rev. Adon Nouman, Elder Omar Zakhour.

Immediately following the elections, the newly formed Administrative Council held its first meeting to elect its Executive Committee. In addition to the President, Vice President, and General Secretary, members elected were: Elder Joseph Felfly and Elder Charles Muller representing the churches of Lebanon, and Rev. Salam Hanna and Elder Marwan Deraatany representing the churches of Syria.

The Assembly concluded with a closing worship service and Holy Communion.
